After carefully studying Frank and Ruby Ramey, I’ve come to a conclusion that the design of the space should not dictate their lifestyle rather their lifestyle should dictate the space. Bringing in their likes of traditional and contemporary styles. The couple at the time were in their 60’s and are both starting to experience some medical problems. Ruby is recovering from hip surgery and often walks with a cane and Frank is often forgetful about things and has problems seeing far. Both the bathroom and kitchen are ADA compliant and also would like to bring them more up to date sense of style by going with neutral color palette from Ivory to muted reds.

I also designed a new look to the Victorian style that Ruby loves by mixing them with a contemporary twist with their furnishing. Frank plays the guitar and loves to sing and write songs. He is going to have a room dedicated to his passion in music. Each space is going to have a different feel to them also considering circulation.

The frames on the furniture are from sustainable species and hand made. The fabrics are from organic materials and hand made.

Perspective sketch of the dining room and is also ADA compliant. The rug is floor inserted and the bamboo stained floors are built around the rug.

The master bathroom is designed around the couples ideal love for the Victorian setting mixed with contemporary designs. The sketch above shows a corner shot of the master tub with a fireplace operated with a safety gas unit with an easy on/off switch. The master bathroom also has a his and hers vanity and extra seating in the space.

Oliver, Machado and Associates are located in the heart of one of the most exciting cities, Atlanta, GA. This Atlanta office is a national advertising agency whose won many awards because their vibrant and energetic design approach to advertisement. Oliver, Machado and Associates easily blended in to the 10,000 sq. ft. building shell into a dynamic ADA-compliant interior of functional work spaces, a sense of hierarchy as well as its open floor plan which makes it more of casual space. Taking into consideration the company’s present position within the industry, as well as its future growth potential.
It was important to have flexible workstations that maximizes the company’s ability to respond to change and capitalize on bringing natural light into the environment. The concept for the firm is to create a functional, progressive and exciting space that allows the company’s continuous capital growth. With the concerns of energy efficiency, an overall space will be designed efficiently and use environmentally friendly products to keep energy costs down.

The design of the space is based on an open linear organizational plan, which contributed to a direct hierarchal system. The space utilizes smooth and non-offensive colors to reinforce the professionalism of the company as well as encourage productivity. The result is an energetic environment that reflects the vision and theory within Oliver, Machado and Associates.

Above are examples of how the concept evolved from theory to applying the space and furniture. The initial sketch of the floor plan incorporates the corporate world of hierarchy level. Furniture will vary from honeycomb-shaped workstations to a typical associate level office furniture setup.

Upon entering the offices, the lobby begins to display the aesthetics of nature. The receptionist counter is finished in high gloss green to remind one of nature and given an organic feel.

The perspective displays the kind of environment the company is all about. The break room is equipped with its own kitchen, refrigerator and a vending machine. It also has modern cabinetry and a locker system for employees. A stainless steel wall is integrated into the space which serves as a dry erase surface for ideas and inspiration.

The picture above shows the inspiration for the kitchen area of the break room. The materials used for cabinetry is high-gloss wood. Also shown are a table and two types of seating, one that is conventional and the other being a lounge-type with a detachable lap top tray.

Hotel Azul and Verde Restaurant are located in the heart of the most dynamic city in the United States, New York City. Since New York is consistently adapting to new styles, trends and design, I’ve decided that this location is much in need of a hotel such as the hotel Azul and Verde restaurant. Inspired by water, the hotel exhibits forms of different wave patterns. Wave like elements drifts into the environment, seamlessly unifying with flowing water that calms the guests as they arrive. This cooling experience follows the architecture all throughout the entire hotel.
Also inspired from nature, Verde rejuvenates guests with the energizing and yet soothing tones of greens within the restaurant. The presence of nature is felt throughout the restaurant with organic architectural forms and clean soothing lines. The unique design and appearance of Azul and Verde will leave guests both inspired and refreshed.

The lighting design for LORENC + YOO Office was inspired by minimalism and technological design concepts. The objective is to embellish on the architecture and also company’s collectibles. The lighting system will provide and enhance a bright, clean appearance for the space. in able to achieve these tasks, three layers of lighting technique shall be executed within each space. Ambient lighting will give the even, general overall lighting as Task lighting will specifically illuminate certain tasks as reading, writing or for art work and Decorative will provide most of the sparkle in the space.

In areas that have exposed ceilings, an indirect lighting system will be used to accentuate the ceiling work and upper walls so that the space appears brighter. In confined areas like hallways, wall mounted fixtures and recessed floor lighting will be used to graze and emphasize certain features like the barn doors that have been restored and are mounted as an offset to the design.

Within the offices and studios, all three layers are still executed but will focus more on the task lighting due to computer work or reading. Applying the two core concepts and proper layering, the lighting will create a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The key plan above shows symbols of fixtures that are being used to obtain layers of light on each space.
